HI FOLKS,

VERY PLEASED TO BRING YOU A REAL, NO CLONE, '66 SUNBEAM "TIGER!"  SUPER RARE WITH ALL CORRECT DRIVE TRAIN!
YES, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE RARE BRITISH SPORTS CARS THAT WANTED A PART OF THE SHELBY COBRA MARKET.
SUNBEAM WAS THEN OWNED BY THE "ROOTS GROUP."  THEY WERE SELLING A VERY NICE AND POPULAR LITTLE 4 CYLINDER SPORTS CAR IN THE U.K. CALLED THE 
"ALPINE."  1.7 LITRES OF TERROR IT WAS NOT!   
THEY WERE ACTUALLY VERY ATTRACTIVE BUT RATHER SLOW..

SO OFF A COUPLE OF THEM GO TO CARROLL SHELBY IN AMERICA TO HAVE HIM ENGINEER THE FORD 260 C.I. V8 INTO THE CAR.

HE HAD ALREADY DONE IT WITH THE COBRA.  ALSO CARROLL SHELBY GOT A PIECE OF THE ACTION ON EVERY TIGER SOLD...
SO CARROLL DID JUST THAT. MADE ALL THE MODIFICATIONS NECESSARY AND RETURNED THEM TO ENGLAND. THE ROOTS GROUP LOVED THEM, ORDERED 3,000 FORD V-8'S, AND SENT THEM OFF TO THEIR JENSEN ASSEMBLY PLANT TO PRODUCE THE CARS NOW CALLED "TIGERS!"
THE ENGINE WAS A FORD 260 V-8, 2 BBL. CARBURETOR RATED AT A MODEST 164HP.  REALLY? YES A 2V CARB.  WHY? I HAVE NO IDEA... MAYBE BETTER MILEAGE FOR THE EURO BUYERS?

6,450 Mark 1 AND 1A TIGERS WERE PRODUCED. THE FACTORY AND PARTICIPATING DEALERS DID OFFER HIGHER PERFORMANCE "260" PACKAGES FOR THE STREET OR THE TRACK AT EXTRA COST.  YOU WILL SEE A PHOTO OF THOSE PACKAGES IN OUR PICTURES.

CHRYSLER ENDED UP BUYING THE ROOTS GROUP AND INHERITED THE TIGER. THEY WERE THRILLED TO HAVE IT AS THEY HAD NOTHING TO COMPETE WITH THE CORVETTES OR THE COBRAS.    PERFECT!!
UNTIL THEY REALIZED THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE A V8 THAT WOULD FIT IN IT!    SERIOUSLY!  surprise

UPON THIS DISCOVERY, THEY DECIDED THEY WOULD NEVER PRODUCE AND WARRANTY CARS WITH FORD ENGINES. PERIOD. BYE BYE TIGER... crying

SO HOW ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL TIGER WE ARE OFFERING FOR SALE?  A MUST HAVE TO COMPLETE ANY SHELBY COLLECTION.
IT IS REAL, CERTIFIED AFTER BEING EXAMINED BY 3 TIGER JUDGES AND HAS THE "TAC" STICKER THAT PROVES THAT. ALSO THE ALL IMPORTANT CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. VERY EXPENSIVE RESTORATION. THE BODY IS LAZER STRAIGHT. THE RED PAINT IS SUPERB. BLACK VINYL INTERIOR IS LIKE NEW, DASH IS LIKE NEW, ALL CHROME IS EXCELLENT, UNDERNEATH IS VERY NICE AND MATCHES THE RED EXTERIOR, BLACK CONVERTIBLE TOP AND FRAME ARE EXCELLENT, GLASS IS EXCELLENT TOO...

ROLL UP WINDOWS,  ADJUSTABLE STEERING WHEEL, AND VERY NICE BUCKET SEATS WERE STANDARD AND YOU COULD NOT GET THEM IN A COBRA.
ALSO, THIS CAR IS WAY MORE COMFORTABLE THAN AN ORIGINAL OR REPRODUCTION COBRA. BUT NOT AS RACE CAR FAST.
0 TO 60 IN 7.8 SECONDS AND TOP SPEED OF 124 MPH. WITH THE BASE 2 BBL 260 ENGINE.   OUR TIGER IS CONSIDERABLY FASTER.
THESE RARE CARS WERE DESIGNED TO DRIVE DAILY ON THE STREET.  WIPERS, HEATER, WINDOWS, YOU KNOW.

THE COBRAS WERE TRUE RACE CARS BUILT FOR THE TRACK. NOT A DAILY DRIVER BY ANY STRETCH.
EVERYTHING WE TRIED IN THIS TIGER WORKS BEAUTIFULLY EXCEPT THE SPEEDOMETER. HE HAD IT REPAIRED AND IT WORKED FINE FOR A MONTH.
IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT A "REPRODUCTION" COBRA YOU SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THIS RARE AND VERY REAL TIGER.

GORGEOUS PANASPORT  WHEELS GIVE IT A GREAT LOOK AND STANCE. ORIGINALS WERE 13" AND NOT AS ATTRACTIVE.
THE WHEEL / TIRE COMBO GIVE THE CAR A SUPER NICE HIGHWAY DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND AWESOME CORNERING AND THE FRONT DISC BRAKES BRING THIS LITTLE RACER TO A STOP IN A HURRY! THE ENGINE IS IN FACT A REAL "TIGER 260 V-8!"  YOU CAN DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH BY TYPING IN F21KA INTO GOOGLE. THERE WERE NEVER MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINES IN TIGERS. ALSO HAS THE PROPER FORD TOP LOADER, CLOSE RATIO, 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION HEH E CODE, AND CORRECT HEAVY DUTY DANA 44 DIFFERENTIAL. 

I CAN TELL YOU IT HAS A PERFORMANCE PACKAGE CONSISTING OF AN EDELBROCK ALUMINUM INTAKE MANIFOLD, EDELBROCK 4 BBL. CARB, HIGH PERFORMANCE STREET CAM, SOLID LIFTERS FOR HIGH RPM'S,  HIDDEN ELECTRONIC INGNITION FOR RELIABILITY AND PERFORMANCE, CUSTOM FIT HEADERS THAT YOU CAN'T SEE IN THAT TIGHT ENGINE COMPARTMENT, HIDDEN AUXILLARY ELECTRIC COOLING FAN,  AND "MUST HAVE" TRACTION BARS TO KEEP THE REAR WHEELS PLANTED UNDER A HARD LAUNCH. MANY OF THESE THINGS WERE OFFERED OR SUGGESTED BY THE FACTORY AND DEALERS AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. YOU CAN SEE THOSE HISTORIC PERFORMANCE UPGRADE PACKAGES IN OUR PICTURES.
